The Tribal Gathering: Autumn Strength Camp 2010
October 23rd and 24th
A great opportunity for strength and performance education will be happening at Bodytribe in October. Saturday and Sunday, October 23rd and 24th, from 10 am - 5 pm.
One weekend, several instructors and a whole bunch of intensity. Our annual Strength Camp is always a small celebration around Bodytribe, and this Autumn Strength Camp will be bigger than ever. We get to see friends new and old, and then grind our hands and brains into hardened steel through lectures and workouts covering the entire foundation of the Bodytribe philosophy on empowerment through strength. Although the basics are covered in each strength camp, there is always a collection of new activities, ideas and exercises for each one.
Hands-on instruction of many of the techniques shown in our Strength Rituals DVD and the new Brutal Recess DVD (available in July):
Learn the Ritual of Training through the ideas, philosophies and techniques of Bodytribe, as well as several guest instructors.
Topics include:
Olympic lifting and the many variations.
Maximum Force development and it’s benefit for all levels of athlete.
The ’strange ‘ lifts. Common at Bodytribe but rarely seen in your average gym.
The process of visualization and how it benefits training.
The Spectrum of Strength and unique program development ideas.
Kettlebells, leverage clubs, sandbags, tires and chains: the funky tools of the tribe.

2 days of lectures and hands-on lifting and movement, including a Sunday morning outdoor training session.
The weekend is limited to 20 people. $250.00. Special discounts for groups and Bodytribe members.

The Brutal Recess Workshop!
Brutal Recess is accepting that freedom means responsibility, and to embrace our freedom of movement, our freedom of strength, we must embrace intensity. It’s the fun of accomplishment. We’ve stolen from all the great movement arts: fighting, dance, yoga and even child’s play and tumbling, and liberally sprinkled them into our workouts, usually in the workload or GPP phases. Get your heavy foundation lifting going and then challenge your stamina and range of motion.

The Saturday Tune Ups
Need something new to add to your arsenal? These 2-hour long workshops address a new movement or concept to bring into your growing empowerment program. A Bodytribe membership will get you vouchers for 2 workshops, otherwise we request a $10 donation from members, or it’s $20 to the general public. 10 am, several Saturdays a month. Upcoming workshops include kettlebell basics, intro to sandbags, program design basics, and more. Here’s what coming up soon…
8/28/2010 Brutal Recess Bodyweight Workshop. More intense mobility, in fact entire workouts of it. Way beyond basic stretching, this is incorporating unique movements with emphasis on healthy joints and full ranges of motion into a workout. Not just for warm ups and cool downs anymore. No gym required, just you and your creativity. We’ll learn a collection of basic and advanced movement patterns and then practice incorporating them into our own creations of intensity.
9/4/2010 Building a Powerlifting Program for the Holistic Lifter. How to lift heavy but with longevity and athleticism in mind. Strength for empowerment, not just big numbers. Read this for our idea of Powerlifting program design. Some of us have some meets coming up… care to join us??
9/11/2010 GPP Program Design for the Holistic Athlete. If you’re hoping on the GPP kick that CrossFit made trendy, ya may want to consider learning to increase your palate. C’mon, folks… there’s more to life than ‘workload.’ Adding more volume to you general physical preparedness training is NOT the answer. Anyone can pretend to work hard by doing a hundred of something… but if actual performance, health and ability are your goals, then let’s talk about some other options.

Movie Night
Do we have to workout ALL THE TIME? Heck no. Once in a while we should just get together because we like each other.
Or because there is a bitchin’ movie being projected on the walls of Bodytribe!
Saturday, May 29th @ 7pm: Happy Gilmore! Go to your Happy Place with the other comedy about golf worth watching (Caddy Shack was last month).
Bring any chairs or food you want, but you’re more than free to sit on the floor and mooch grub off others as well. We are a Tribe, right?
