I heart snatches
Bodytribe play day. After snatch practice (does that ever become not funny, or am I doomed to be stuck in 8th grade humor), we played with a lot of rotational movements using KB’s and leverage clubs. This video sums it up:
PLAY DAY: Clubs, KB’s and Snatches.
Snatches. 10 sets 2-3 reps, about 75% max.
Club cleans with lockout. Huh? Watch the video.
KB lateral snatch and clean. Again, watch the video.

DIY weekend
Thanks to a video of homemade clubs, for under $65 Brent and I made a pair of clubs (about 12 pounds) and a pair of parallettes, confirming again that Home Depot trumps Disneyland as the Happiest Place on Earth.
Thanks to everyone who played with me for the Clubs and KB workshop this weekend. We partied with some exercises that are rarely seen in ANY workshop. A good time was had.

Hmm, gonna have to make me a couple of clubs. Perfect weight for me, too.

I wonder how these compare with sledgehammers. (used somewhat differently by http://www.shovelglove.com/ and others.)

Sledgehammers are definitely in the same family, they only have a slightly different feel. The biggest difference is in the heavier loads. A heavy club (say 35-45 pounds) has a different ’swing’ or feel than a really heavy sledge (which I’ve found pretty hard to find).
Plus the top of a sledge makes certain movements a bit trickier, since so many club movement require the club to be quite close to the body.
Shovel Glove falls under the ’shovel’ category, made famous by Steve Justa in Rock, Iron, Steel, although with his strength, he’d have to use jungle cats to make Shovel Glove effective for his workouts.
