Lighten up

Max Jerk Press: You know the drill; heavy, low rep sets, with big rests, until you’re only doing single rep sets, progressively heavier until no can do.

Daves’ Combo: Heavy sandbag carry/heavy sled blast/push up crawls/pullups. 100 feet/100 feet/ 50 feet/10. Here’s the video of the first time we did these.

Time it, then do it again and get as close to the time as possible (or beat it)

Sometimes ya gotta stop fucking around. I need a vacation, and that vacation will be the Hawaii Open Weightlifting Championships in Oahu October 25th. I’ve got my sights set on that meet and my training and eating are falling into place appropriately. I’m quickly discovering my weaknesses in the classic lifts and working some serious trouble shooting to see if i can’t throw around something mildly impressive come October.

Don’t worry I won’t bore you with my new training split, and I’ll keep posting workouts that may be a bit more interesting than what I’m personally doing (aw, cleans again?? C’mon!). But once in a while there will probably be a rant about how evil overhead squats are, or how many times I bounced on my ass during heavy snatch practice.

Some upcoming events around Bodytribe (and beyond) have me excited. Jim Schmitz will be teaching a weightlifting seminar here, dishing out his lifting wisdom while not hurting us too bad or laughing too loudly at our technique. The date is not confirmed, but we’re aiming for the first weekend in June. This seminar will be limited to 8 people, and the spaces are almost full, but if you’re interested, let me know NOW.

Our Arcata connections have booked us for a 2-day strength camp in Humboldt County, May 17th and 18th. I’ll have more details later this week, but the Physical SubCulture Weekend in the Redwoods will be 2 days of philosophy and technique in one of my favorite towns.

May 3rd will be our next First Saturday Workshop Series adventure, featuring clubs and kettlebells. We’ll review the basics, but really start delving into some intriguing uses of these toys that aren’t as commonly known (no, not THAT intriguing).

Bodytribe will be going through some small renovations over the next month or so. We’ll be having a couple of paint and destroy parties coming up, for anyone that wants to help rip out some carpet and paint some walls and floors. Here’s some dates:

Sunday, April 27th and Sunday, May 11th, let’s say noon-ish, we’ll be ripping out some carpet and doing some painting. Enjoy the transformation of the sanctuary with us, and get a little messy in the process.

Sorry for the lack of posting recently. I’ve been working on a couple of posts that have turned into major endeavors, and won’t be ready for a while. Meanwhile, I’ll keep things short and informative.

  • Don’t think you’ll bore us by posting re: your Oly split. I’m wondering what the heck a contemporary Oly split would look like. All I know at this point for Oly programming is some of what Tommy Kono has written…

  • Uh, your blog thinks it’s in the Eastern time zone…

  • My blog thinks a lot of things it shouldn’t. WordPress is really letting me down.

  • when doing buellers do i step to face the barbell so my arms are out in front of me or do i twist so my arms are out to my side.

  • For any type of bueler, your arms are always locked and in front of you. The trunk and hips turns to move the arms.

  • A Jim Schmitz seminar. Good work Chip.

Oh and did buehler’s not too long ago. My arms get spent pretty quick on those.
