QUICK NOTICE: This weekend’s workshop is being postponed. Don’t worry, we’ll keep you updated!

Keep in mind that just because I’m too busy to post workouts doesn’t mean we’re not doing them. But the time it takes to document, link and post some of these blog entries has been taken up by […]

The Heart of the matter

Today’s workout is wonderfully simple:
deadlifts/pullups/sled tug. Descending sets:
10,8,6,4 etc for the intro version
10,9,8,7 etc for the hardcore.
EXCEPT for the sled tug, which will be cut in half. 10 deads = 5 sled tugs, 4 deads = 2 sled tugs. You get the idea. Keep the weight simple for now. 50% of max […]

Aloha Chair

THE WORKOUT
Overhead squat.  4 sets, 5 heavy reps.  Dangle some weights with bands from the bar to make a greater challenge.
Lunge Buelers. 25 per side. See how long it takes.
SquataTabata.  KB Front Squat. Ya know the drill, 20 seconds on, 10 seconds off, 8 times.

Rant
This video is entertaining.  Little needs to be said about it
For […]

getting inspired

Thanks to Kevin, I decided to test my leverage club Torch Press abilities. Oh, how a mere 35 pounds can humble me quickly. After a good warm up with a 25er (shown above), I played with our custom made 35 pound club and was met with a resounding ‘go to hell’ from my right […]

Why people hate ‘Fitness’

At a recent workshop, Bodytribe trainer Maurice admitted to disdain for the word ‘fitness,’ voicing what many of us feel about the modern applications being antithetical to what we believe our industry should represent. It seems a daunting task for us to reclaim the word, I’ve even contemplated removing it from my gym name. […]

Going to Austin

Few things have taxed my max lifting capacity like a heavy Turkish Get Up. If I weren’t training for some upcoming meets, I’d be pushing the limits on the TGU, as well as the bent press and one armed snatch, with a frequency akin to changing my underwear. Not to deny the basics, as […]

Thoughts on squat

The comments from yesterday’s post got me a thinkun’. The modern powerlifting stance, which I attempt to covet for power meets before I switch gears with the narrow stance for future weightlifting meets, fires the hips a bit differently than a more traditional squat.  The hips stay considerably back  and the leg are quite wide, […]

Art Therapy

Today’s workout is a nice, simple squat workout with no serious intention except to play with heavy weights and get our squat up a little. Staying closer to the Max Force Development end of our Spectrum of Strength, we’re doing only a tad of experimenting.
Max Box Squats. I’ve been playing with bands, but in […]

Sunshiny Goodness

After the population of Sacramento grew webbed feet to survive the rains of January, February has been blessing our constitutions with Sol’s smiling face, and we appreciate it. So half of today’s workout will be outside.
Squats. About 70% of max, 5 sets of 5 reps.  Simple, classic, fun.
Pullups/deadlifts.  50-55% of max, 30 reps.  These are […]

How annoying should I be?

Today’s workout is pretty simple. Remember, simple is not synonymous with easy.
Near max box squats with bands/sled blast. 2 reps/100 feet, 4 sets. After a usual contingent of warm up sets, we’ll strive for a double at about 90% max (band and box max, remember, not competition max). After the 2 reps, run the sled […]
