How a Tribe Grows

Today’s workout is as simple as can be:
Max out on deadlifts
Heavy sandbag clean and carry. Pick it up, carry it 50 feet, put it down, repeat. A lot. 20 times. For time. Not unlike what we do about half way through this video.

How a Tribe Grows
This internet can feed into my concept of Tribe nicely […]

What is a Tribe?

Today we’re pressing.  Overhead.  Strict. Like this.
Max Overhead Press.
Incline KB press with bands.
Burpee-pullups/L-dip (with a pike bonus, if ya wanna). The combo of the beast: 6 burpee pullups, 6 L-dips, 6 rounds for time.
Both the incline band presses and L dips are featured in this video

burpee-pullup.
What is a Tribe?
There’s something intimate about the concept of […]

All secrets reveled

Thank you, Elite Fitness System, for not only publishing something I wrote, but adding a photo of myself I haven’t seen for over 5 years.

That’s my first or second competition about 6 or 7 years ago, which I also hosted, organized, spotted AND reffed for. I believe we only had about 8 competitors, but […]

Modern Tribe

Yesterday we squatted.
Box squats with bands (medium and small). max out.
1 leg squats. 1 leg up on bench. Holding a pair of KB’s in rack position.
Good mornings/sled blast. Heavy GM’s, heavy sled. 6-8 reps/100 feet.

Today we’re pressing.
1 hand strict overhead press. Any tool of choice. Work up to heavy singles.
Bench press. 80% of […]

A Lotta Tabata

Today’s workout is play day:
Box drop pushups/clap pullups. 4/4, 6 sets. Okay, not everyone can do clap pullups (maybe inlcuding me after a few sets), so the goal is to just make them explosive. Same with the pushups.
1-arm barbell snatch/windmill. Heavy singles. What? Aren’t we only supposed to do heavy singles […]

Sometimes quiet is best.

WINTER STRENGTH CAMP coming up soon!!! Ya know you wanna…

Recently I exchanged some material with the infamous Ross Enamalt, who’d wonderful book, Full Throttle Conditioning, had a great catchy subtitle: putting the ‘work’ back into ‘workout.’ I like that.  So here’s today’s workout
We’re repeating last Thursday’s workout, only harder. For those looking for a higher […]

Issues

Wednesday tends to be recovery day, at least for those of us who spit blood and eat nails on Monday and Tuesday.  But I didn’t post yesterday’s workout, and too many of you who I see regulary skipped Monday (AHEM!), so I don’t feel that far behind.
Tuesday was pretty simple: increase pressing ability.

Max overhead band […]

Art, drunk fans and squatting.

We’re not swaying too much from last week’s max squat workout.  Again, we’re not dabbling deeply into GPP work, since that train sailed during the last few months.  But we’re not completely ignoring it either.  But we like the heavy, so bring on the heavy.
Max Squats on box. 5-6 sets of triples, followed by 3-4 […]

Bodytribe Newsletter, January 11th

Hey, I’m in the Sacramento News and Review this week (among a few other local publications, but this is the only one with a weblink).

Diatribe
Certain things bare repeating.
Certain things bare repeating. I received an email from an old friend who is slipping into the scary world of film making. Thankfully he can […]

A little crazy

My deadlifts stick out of the hole, not towards lockout. In fact, if the bar leaves the ground higher than an inch or two, chances are it’s going all the way. (These last two sentences almost seem like pirated copy from all the erectile dysfunction and penile enlargement spam I get daily). I’ll eschew deep […]
