Tiger 3, Humans 1
We’re counting the injured in our total for the Tiger vs. Human battle that happened at the San Francisco Zoo recently, and the total could be counted as 4 if we include the zoo keeper injured by said tiger a few months a ago, but Tatiana did managed to wipe one of us off the planet for good before we took her down.
Maybe this could set a precedent and add a little more excitement to the zoo experience. Well a boy can dream…

Mitten (our temporary guest kitty)

Yesterday was not to be celebrated as a ‘day off,’ but a successful day ‘ON.’ ‘Twas a good training day, complete with a slow introduction to a future attempt at the whacky workout fad called ‘The 300,’ made popular as a training tool for the actors in the movie. Lots of folks are goin’ around trying this brutal endurance event without knowing much about it. The workout itself was created by the good folks at Gym Jones, the folks who take their workouts so seriously that they recommend most folks don’t even bother trying them, simply because they can’t.
The 300 workout seems to be grossly misunderstood, since folks are casually attempting it in the same way they would a CrossFit WOD, a tough challenge for the day that might be used in the future as a benchmark to break. The folks at Gym Jones considered the 300 more of a final test, something that was only attempted towards the end of a serious training cycle. Here’s how they put it:
The second misconception surrounds the idea of the Spartan workout, aka “300”, how frequently it was done or who actually finished it. “300” is a one-time test, an invitation-only challenge undertaken by those deemed ready for it. By the end of our four-month project 17 people had done the workout (Logan and I were two of them). This constitutes about 50% of the cast and stunt crew. We supervised every test, evaluated each rep for quality and only counted those that achieved our standards for form and range of motion. Like many workouts “300” is not hard once you’ve done it but the apprehension built up ahead of it – something we encouraged – was enough to make some guys fear it to the degree that performance was compromised. This workout was a crucible that some passed through and others still have hanging over them.
By the way, it goes like this:
“300”
25x Pull-up +
50x Deadlift @ 135# +
50x Push-up +
50x Box Jump @ 24” box +
50x Floor Wiper @ 135# (one-count) +
50x KB Clean and Press @ 36# (KB must touch floor between reps) +
25x Pull-up
300 reps total
Yesterday, the end of my workout was the beginning of the ‘300.’ From Monday my tush resembles a pair of bowling balls in a kiln. Every step makes those glutes cry a little, so i wasn’t about to even touch the deadlifts. Anyway, here’s yesterday’s workout
Short and sweet:
Max overhead press.
Flagman flys/behind-the-neck presses for reps. What’s a flagman fly? See pics below…
25 pullups/50 pushups for speed.

Keep the shoulders back and down fighting the urge to let our natural ’shrug reflex’ take over.
