Diatribe:

***** The Seasonal Obligated ‘Give Thanks’ Speech *****

If we had to give everything back, if the universal plan demanded us to hand over all possessions and start again bare and raw, I would have a very under-impressive load to turn in. What we would be left with, in our stripped down, essential state, is the coveted internal real estate we should perpetually be striving to cultivate. To give and receive from this place, there is no better exchange. All else is superfluous, although possibly entertaining. As a naked, unencumbered soul, give thanks, then, for how well you can fill the world with nothing but you. The caveat to this spiritual nudity is the quick understanding that if you haven’t taken care of yourself, if you don’t have the respect for yourself to care about the condition of your system, you greatly limit your choices and possibilities.

Naked in front of God, Buddha, Posieden or Pan, give thanks for the better choices you’ve made and embrace wisdom for choices not yet made.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!! Eat well, be well, do well!!

News:

We’ve been in talks with local Crossfit gyms, as well as many other concerned parties, and the outcome will be a NorCal CrossFit Total Meet here at Bodytribe on February 23rd, 2008. A CrossFit Total Meet (or CFT for future lazy writing habits) is a slightly tweaked powerlifting meet, Instead of the beloved but rather over-hyped bench press, we’ll the body to a different challenge and feature a strict overhead press. The Squat and Deadlift will still be there for the show as well.

The meet is totally raw, in other words, no fancy bullet-proof lifting suits to be seen. In fact, singlets aren’t even allowed. No, we’re not lifting nekkid, shorts and shirts are allowed. Mark Rippetoe, the guy behind the event, has some things to say about it here:

The entry fee will be going to a local charity, so start your training today and come join in the fun.

Workshops:

Tonight and next Wednesday night will feature the next couple of Wednesday Night Check Ups, the first Saturday of December will be our next spine workshop, back by popular demand, and February will see our next 2-day Strength Camp. There’s more, so go here to check it all out:

  • Any posting of the official CFT comp rules yet? From the article, it sounds like sumo deadlifters are S.O.L. (I would argue against the statement that sumo stance limits range of motion. If a long-armed, short-legged lifter pulls conventional and a short-armed, long-legged lifter pulls sumo, aren’t their ranges of motion closer than if they both pulled conventional?) Oh well, Chip didn’t write the rules.

  • And I just found the link at the top of the page…no mention about sumo stance, though. Oh well, what do I care…I’m a conventional puller!
