Bench Day

Our team lifts raw.  Heck, some of us would take ‘natural lifting’ to its bare-assed extreme if the rules allowed for it. The problem of modern powerlifting training methods is that most of it is geared towards gear. Bench pressing is the best example, with board presses and lockout training being crucial to most competitive lifters.  Well for those of us sans bench shirt, the lockout is the least of our worry.  Off-the-chest is often our biggest concern, therefore I like maxing from pins set right at chest height.  Today we also added bands for a double whammy.

JM press/v-dips.  I also used bands for the JM press, although if you’re not familiar with them, good ol’ narrow grip presses are groovy as well. V-dips are simply dips with your legs as high and straight as you can lift them, throughout the exercise.

Rows or club work. If you haven’t rowed for a few days, today’s a good day.  Since I rowed recently, I opted instead for club snatches combined with double mills.  Only a handful of people on this planet might know what that means, so any overhead club work would suffice.

  • You know, your comment on taking powerlifting to its bare-assed extreme has awaken an old idea I had about a nude powerlifting meet. Hey, wouldn’t be the first time we had nekked people at Bodytribe. I know there’s only one nude world record recorded for powerlifting, and that was a 405 lb squat by a 165 lb male. Let’s set a few of our own.
