Meet results

Although I was a nervous wreck, worried about the shorter length of my training schedule and feeling a bit unsure of where I’d be compared to my last meet, I got my flow going and ended up with 9 white flags, 2 competition PR’s, one personal best, a state record and matching my previous meet […]

must…workout…soon

I’m in a small (very small) club in Redding, California about to play to a small crowd of maybe 12 people.  Like Anthony Kiedis in his earlier years, whose autobiography we’re listening to on the iPod in the tour van, I need a hit.  I’m going through withdrawals.  What I’d give for a heavy piece […]

Bench Day

Our team lifts raw.  Heck, some of us would take ‘natural lifting’ to its bare-assed extreme if the rules allowed for it. The problem of modern powerlifting training methods is that most of it is geared towards gear. Bench pressing is the best example, with board presses and lockout training being crucial to most competitive […]

Max squat day

So we’re only 4 weeks out from the comp.  We’re working hard at hitting out maxes, and the supplemental work is geared to bringing up the main lifts.  The GPP has been kept at a minimum, since our workload capacity should have been brought up in prior months.  Now it’s heavy, low reps and lot’s […]
