The Quick and the Dead(lift)

Why do combos always have to be light for high reps?
Snatch-grip deadlift (make it low: use smaller plates, like 25’s, or hop up on a small box)/high pulls/pullups.
The goal is 5 sets of 5 reps each for time.  But make ‘em heavy.
My example: 205 pound deadlift/225 high pull (not too high due to nursing elbow […]

Back attack

borrowing from several different modalities, here’s today’s challenge:
Deadlifts/pullups/sled tugs.
Universal Champion: 125% of weight on all three exercises (for pull up, add 25% of your body with a belt). Rep scheme: 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, etc. of each, with the sled tug being half (rounded up, 5, 5, 4, 4, etc. each full length of […]

Bring It

Hey, thanks to all the folks who have been telling me that they actually read this.  Here’s our next installment:
Cleans. 8 sets of 3, playing with between 60 and 80% max.
Heavy pullups/deadlift: adjust the pullups so it is quite an endeavor to do 3-5 reps.  Then immediately walk over to a bar at about 80-90% […]

American Idol alternative

It is understandably hard to step away from the Idol hype all over TV today for even a minute, but if you can, here’s today’s workout:
Jerk Press. heavy-ish. 6 working sets of 3 reps.
Bench press with chains. 3 sets, 8 reps.
Forward Push Up Crawls. 50-100 feet.  Depending on ability, 1 set might be enough.  Otherwise, […]

FUCK YOU MICHAEL VICK!!

Since no one ever actually reads these posts, I’m going to let some language fly.  Clinton Portis, you and your dog fighting pal Vick are both reprehensible rich-punk scum.  Too bad only a small portion of the population will fully understand the depth of stupidity both of you men have proven to dwell in.  The […]

Commandment #9

Dan John  wrote the 10 Commandments of Lifting, and #9 was a huge inspiration to me:
Put the bar on the ground and pick it up a bnch of different ways
So…
Max deadlift.
Cleans. Low reps, working up to a decent percentage of max.
Pullups/bent rows (variation). If you can, add some weight to the pullups.  Our goal is […]

Immoral Majority

Feeling a little hot under the collar, Mr Falwell?
Try this combo after a max squat workout:
Goodmornings/hanging leg raises or windshield wipers/sled pull (backwards)/weighted jump rope
moderate weight, 8-10/as many as you can/100 feet, heavy/2-4 pounds for one minute.
3 rounds.  Don’t stop.

Paris should Burn

Now that the Hilton Heiress is headed to the bighouse (not long enough or soon enough, in my opinion), here’s her workout plan:
Burpees/pullups/pistol squats
10/10/5 per leg
6 times and clock it.

That scrawny tramp couldn’t do any of these once, so just to show strength is better than money, let’s all show the new almost-convict how the […]

The Viagra Workout: getting it up

Max overhead press from pins.  This is fun.  Keep the body nice and locked.  This isn’t old school olympic lifting pressing, trying to arch the body into a standing bench press.  No movement from the body.  Set the pins right at shouder level and return the bar to them each time.  Heavy sets of 1-3 […]

Covering the bases

From freaky heavy to serious GPP in one workout:
Heavy walkouts and partial squats.  Work up to as heavy as you can without crushing yourself.  Set pins high in the cage for safety (and determined squat depth).
Front squats.  For reps.  Several sets.
KB swings/saxon bends/sled drag/jumprope.  single arm, 10 reps per side/moderate weight, 7 reps per side/200 feet/1-2 minutes […]
