Stop the Presses

Tuesday and wednesdays are often dedicated to presing for many of our clients and powerlifting team members, depending on their schedule.  This is why Tuesdays always seem to feature heavy pressing of some sort (and Mondays are usually squatting related).  You might also notice that there isn’t as much in the way of GPP combos […]

Pull Your Weight Around Here, V.2.0

We’ve modified last weeks pull workout.  Now it looks like this:
Heavy deadlifts, somewhere between 65% and 80% of max followed by pullups (modify them according to ability).  Do 30 reps, however you need to break it down (sets of 3, sets of 5, however many you can before you puke… whatever), but for every deadlift […]

The Turkish Get Up

Let’s review a standard exercise here at Bodytribe, and well known amongst modern physical culturalists:
The Turkish Get Up

Another Bodytribe favorite, the turkish getup turns what looks like a simple task into a fun challenge.  It is a deceptively difficult lift that keeps us young.  It is easy to adulticize this lift by thinking about it […]

January ‘07 art show

Some pictures of the AVES bird themed art show January 14th, 2007.

The temperature outside was bordering on below freezing, but we had a decent turn out, which included a great group of animal lovers.  Thanks to Animal Protection Institute and artist Gale Hart for helping organize this show.

The Oops, I did it Again workout

What ever happened to the young Brittney?  Ponder that while you do the following:
Bench press max.  Simple. Then…
Get it the squat cage, set the pins a couple inches off the chest.  Press from pins, using your max weight or close to it.  A few sets of really low reps (singles are okay).
Put the pins two […]

Squat Attack all over again.

We attacked this last week.  Let’s do it again.
Heavy walkout with partial rep squats.  Really heavy.  Work up to a weight that feels like it will crush you unless you’re totally focused.
Then… for the last three sets, when you’re at your heaviest, follow it immediately with heavy goodmornings, set up at a different rack.  Although […]

Pull your weight around here

Deadlifts.  About 70-85% of your max.  30 reps.  Yep, 30.  As long as it takes.  Break before form deteriorates.
Pullups.  Same thing.  30.  Weighted, assisted or straight up.
Bent Row/High Pull.  Kb’s.  Heavy. 3 sets of between 6-8 reps.
Turkish get ups.  Light, for reps. 2 minutes straight.

Mieke and her deadlift. Sounds like a children’s novel.

Camilo getting up […]

Band Extensions

I was asked by someone online to send info on this exercise.  I thought I’d post it here.  The goal is to give the vastus medialis (tear drop above the knee) some action, since it might get over shadowed by the beefier, more dominant lateralis when practicing squats.  Good pre-hab for powerlifters, among others.
 Grab a […]

Squat Attack

A change of pace:
Heavy walkout with partial rep squats.  Really heavy.  Work up to a weight that feels like it will crush you unless you’re totally focused.
Then… for the last three sets, when you’re at your heaviest, follow it immediately with heavy goodmornings, set up at a different rack.  Although feeling light at first, these […]
